I got the new tank in and I had a bitch of a time tightening it enough. I was halfway thru the new bolts and the new tank straps were so tight that the nuts wouldn't budge anymore. I got it a few more turns and thats it. I'm hoping if I drive it a bit the straps might settle/strech a bit and I can tighten it all the way.
Also I think I got the vent line pinched in the process. The car wouldn't start with the cap on and when I open the gas cap I get a loud PSSSHHH!!! and a rush of air/vapor coming out. So it looks like I'm back to square one. I have to undo the tank and see if I can un-pinch the vent line.
But it's not leaking and I was able to move it out of the garage so I guess that's a plus.
It's doesn't look like the Titanic is ready for it's main voyage yet.

Titanic? With that grey this Lincoln deserves to be named after an aircraft carrier!

I just put a new tank in my LeSabre. I put in threaded rod in place of the bolts bc I knew it might be out a time or two more while we repair the trunk flior. Also, the rods can be used for easier installation/removal. Now that they are in, I'm considering leaving them in place.

I took it for a quick spin around the street. It was slow but it was fun!

I took it for a spin around the block and it was marvelous. I forgot exactly how floaty the damn thing was. I was gone for all of 2 minutes until 2 older gentlemen stopped me and wanted to check out the car. They seemed to like it a fair bit. I tried to sell it to one of them but they didn't bite.

I'm failing to see how threaded rod would make the installation any easier?

Maybe so but at the time I couldn't find one big enough.

The hood is long enough to launch a jet off of it so maybe you are right.

Not sure what it's like under the big Lincoln, but the way GM does it is with two long bolts on the front end of the straps. Instead of the bolts (which were just _barely_ long enough), I put longer threaded rod in there, then I didn't have to hold the tank all the way up to get the nuts started on the threaded rod. It allows me to partially lower the tank without dropping it to the floor also. This is important to me at the moment because we are working on repairing the rusty trunk floor, so it's nice to be able to get some space without dropping the tank completely out. If it's just install and leave it, the threaded rods probably aren't necessary.

Ah yes it makes sense now. My car is setup the same way. The bolts are like 3" long so I'm sure I can loosen them enough to straighten out the vent line without actually dropping the tank completely.
The floor on top of the tank is MINT! I thought it would of been rusty as well but nope!
